Arrange the players into a circle. Each player's left elbow is on the table, and the hands are cupped with palms touching, as this position makes it easier to stack the cards.
The player to the left of the dealer shuffles the cards and then places them face down in the center of the table. The dealer now "cuts" the deck by picking up the top half and placing it on top of the rest of the deck.
The player to the left of the dealer turns over the top card and places it face up in the center of the table. This card is then the first card of the discard pile.
The first player to the left of the dealer can now lead any card they choose. The player to their left then plays the next card on top of that one. This continues around the table until all the players have played one card.
If a player has no card in their hand that they can play, they must draw one card from the top of the discard pile unless they have a card in their hand that will allow them to break up the stack. The player must then play the top card of the discard pile
